Hi Paula. Well done for sticking with the plan even when things got a bit difficult for you! Don't be discouraged and know that for the second wave it'll be more familiar - and you know to avoid fruit ;-) Just wanted to reinforce how many clients…

Hi Rachel. It's a simliar story for most people but it says more about how society works nowadays than about you. What I mean is that it has become so commonplace for people to eat out of packets and generally indulge themselves in eating things th…

The classic bug bear of anyone who has worked in a gym! We really should put together a comedy sketch about this. The big guys tend (I stress, tend) to be the ones using the heaviest bits of kit (badly), and then not putting them away. They also se…

Hey Lisa. I think the main problem is what means you are using to monitor the body fat % as the lack of accuracy is a big obstacle. Hydrostatic weighing is the traditional 'gold standard' and is still not 100% accurate. Moving down the chain - calip…

Hi Simon. Thanks for your perspective and apologies for the delayed reply. I'm glad I'm not the only 'nutter' contemplating this aspect of the client ;-) So far my experience has been that many coaches get so caught up on setting up future goals a…

Hi Jon, Really interesting questions and points you've made :) I believe that many people who exercise on their own, or with a Personal Trainer, neglect the all-important area of psychology and introspective work. I think it's interesting Jon tha…

Recently I've been recharging my spiritual bateries with Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and it's made me wonder whether the client's current 'happiness' is as big a factor for other trainers. What I mean is this - we all (hopefully) get o…

Just wanted to chime in to reiterate the value of experimenting with different factors, and how the results will vary from person to person so keep on experimenting. Sleep has proved to be amongst the most neglected factors in my experience, and th…

The Last Word On Boiled Frogs

You’ve most probably heard of the experiment where, in order to test its nervous system, students drop a frog in a pot of boiling water and it immediately jumps out, recognising that it is in danger of imminent death. Big surprise, huh? What is surprising is that when you start the frog in tepid water and heat the water very slowly – the frog makes no attempt to escape and ends up being boiled to death!

This story is most often used to illustrate the dangers of a “slippery slope”, and is especi… Continue

Thanks Jon! Do let me know about Quorn, I love it but I feel uncomfortable about eating someting produced in Factory Vats. It a fungus, yuk!
About the date, well, it was at a club and he kept wanting to buy me a drink and I kept saying "OK, water", till it felt a bit silly 'cause he was like, "you want another water?". I guess I felt embarrased because I don't want to be seen as "difficult". But thanks anyway!

Can you tell me how to add in foods again after the 30 days. Does one have to eat the food on it's own (for instance a piece of cheese) or is it OK to include it in a meal to check how one reacts. I rather imagine it as to be on it's own? I'm going to take one week off and then do another 30 days since I just discovered that in Holland were I live NONE of the grains such as quinoa or rye are guranteed gluten free! I've been eating a liile oats or quinoa for breakfast!
Can you also tell me if Quorn is OK on the ED? Not the flovoured type, just the plain blocks (ingredients fungus and egg protein). In some ways it's a processed food, as in manufactured but in other ways it isn't (no additives). Thank you.
